The Pilgrim Malvern

"The finest pedal harp that has ever been made in Britain. It is much lighter than most concert harps and, this combined with an original body construction, has a range of sonority and dynamic that is quite remarkable. ”
David Watkins

Finding a concert harp that’s light, portable and affordable has always involved a compromise with sound quality, or the use of inferior materials such as nylon strings and plywood soundboards - until now.

Launched in 2007, The Malvern, named in honour of Edward Elgar (whose 150th anniversary was celebrated the same year), combines the traditional qualities of a hand-built instrument with all the reliability and precision expected of a modern concert harp.

This elegant, hand-crafted pedal harp weighs just 31 kg (69 lbs). It has the full range of 47 strings, and is gut-strung to the very top. The Malvern’s uniquely-shaped extended soundboard is designed to produce a tonal range and quality to rival that of the most expensive concert harps.

Extensive research on harp acoustics; careful use of carbon fibre technology in key areas; mechanism plates that won’t tarnish and are fitted with gold-plated discs, bridge-pins and forks and our own special bell-metal cast soundbox ribs, together with the finest precision craftsmanship, has resulted in a harp with increased strength, reliability and quality of sound, but reduced weight and cost
